What is the difference between the verification and the calibration?

verification

calibration

procedure  regulated by the law, carried out by an authority

not the authority’s activity

metrological verification can be carried out exclusively by a metrological authority

anyone is allowed  to calibrate measuring devices

measuring devices  subject to mandatory verification are determined by the law

any measuring device is allowed  to be calibrated, if  there is a need to show/prove its traceability

existence of the type approval of  the device  is the prerequisite of the verification

the calibration has no licensing prerequisite

the ( successful ) verification is attested by the authority’s marks ( verification stamp, seal, etc.) and/or a verification certificate

the calibration results in a   calibration certificate

the  verification certificate is a document issued out by  the authority and it is valid for a stated period of time

the   calibration certificate is not a document of the authority and it has no validity of duration

reverification is mandatory after  periods of time defined by the law.

the proprietor  decides on the renewal of the calibration at his own responsibility
