International System of Units
(SI)

The International System of Units (SI), base on Metre Convention (1875), was established in 1960 by the 11th General Conference on Weights and Measures. From that time the SI units are the legal units of measurements in Hungary. Nowadays the SI units are used by mutual consent as the legal unit of measurements in the signatory countries throughout the world.

The International System of Units is comprised of seven independent base units which together with the derived units make up a coherent system of units. International cooperation and standardisation assure the uniformity of the interpretation of SI.

By means of the seven re-defined base units with growing accuracy, accordingly the scientific and technical development, bigger measurement accuracy can be reached.

The English version of SI can be found on website of BIPM.
