ASSAY AUTHORITY OF THE

HUNGARIAN TRADE LICENSING OFFICE

The authorization of precious metal activity, the registration and supervision of providers, and the assaying and hallmarking of precious metal articles intended for sale are performed by the Assay Authority of the Hungarian Trade Licensing Office (hereinafter referred as: Authority).

The Authority shall:

1. authorise and keeps record of any and all economic organizations dealing in the manufacture, marketing, repairing and selling by auction of precious metal articles;
2. certify the precious metal content of precious metal articles and goods complying with the requirements stipulated in law and shall arrange for their hallmarking;
3. conduct the procedure for establishing equivalency of hallmarks;
4. check adherence to legal requirements for precious metal articles and their hallmarking, in association with its activities described in Subsection (1);
5. co-operate with the National Tax and Custom Office in course of official control of the manufacture and marketing of precious metal articles;
6. authorize manufacturing and marketing of precious metal articles of a composition other than that specified in law;
7. permit manufacturers and distributors to apply such responsibility marks which are not confusable with other marks;
8. make precious metal articles not complying with legal requirements ineligible for marketing (break-up);
9. provide the precious metal articles and goods with a qualification subsequent to laboratory analyzing;
10. arrange for safekeeping of hallmarking punches and tools and the precious metal articles tested.

The activities of the Authority related to hallmarking, testing and assaying precious metal content as well as determination of equivalency shall be subject to payment of an administration service fee at the rate stipulated in Ministry Decree 57/2006. (VIII. 3.) GKM.
